Quality of life (QOL) has become an important outcome in assessing the effectiveness of treatments and interventions in the health area. In this sense, this research aimed to measure the quality of life, evaluated using the EQ-5D- 3L in patients of the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics (INTO), who suffered fractures of femurs hospitalized between 11/2015 and 10/2016. Fifty-five patients with orthopedic trauma with a femoral fracture, aged 18 years or more, were hospitalized and operated at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics Jamil Haddad (INTO). The evaluation instruments were applied at the admission of the patient, in the first return of this patient to the outpatient clinic, and in the second return that comprised from 45 to 60 days after the surgical procedure. As a result, it was observed that the majority of the people evaluated by this research were female and were over 60 years old. The most common fracture of the femur was of the proximal type. In the evaluation of VAS during the time studied, it was verified that there was a growing gain in self-rated quality of life. EQ-5D-3L also showed a significant improvement in the quality of life assessed in the five dimensions of the instrument: mobility, self-care, habitual activities, pain / discomfort, and anxiety / depression. Therefore, it is concluded that this type of evaluation can aid in the decision-making and cost-utility evaluation related to orthopedic trauma. Therefore, the present study sought to contribute to fill a gap in scientific knowledge about the assessment of quality of life in patients submitted to orthopedic surgery, after a trauma that results from a fracture of the femur.
